In the world today the internet is everything, it can change the way a person runs their life from banking to shopping and even watching TV…. That’s right! Watching TV.
Since the introduction of online video providers such as YouTube and Google Video, there has been a rapid rise in the amount of content available for viewing. One of the best features of online video is that you can watch it on-demand at a time suitable to your self and not when it is scheduled.
Some of the largest UK TV companies such as the BBC, ITV, Channel Four and even SKY have introduced online services to enable viewers to watch shows and documentaries, through either a streaming program or directly through a browser.
Some of these companies offer both free to view and pay per view services. Most of the TV programs available are free where as movies and premium content is charged, usually for a 24 hour period of viewing. This gives a win-win situation as customers are happy they are able to view high quality content when they want while companies take in more revenue.
Being one of the first providers, YouTube have hit another mile stone. In America, the TIVO system has been integrated with a YouTube API that allows users to watch any video from the YouTube website, directly from their TV. This gives access to an almost unlimited amount of content whilst being free to view and on demand.
As more and more people turn to the internet each day, this sort of movement is likely to increase and we may even find one day soon that we don’t have an Arial or Satellite to watch TV, instead everything is streamed from our internet line.
