Web 2.0 is the use of World Wide Web technology and Web Design that encourages the collaboration and sharing of information among internet users today.

Web 2.0 has many different definitions to many different people, some of these for example include the use of curvy web graphics and usage of drop shadows with websites. This choice however is primarily one made based on fashion which became notable around the same time that Web 2.0 became a buzz word.

Another common mistake is that some people seem to think that AJAX is Web 2.0, whilst AJAX does indeed help make up the definition of a Web 2.0 website, it is not actually required for a Web 2.0 website to function.

Web 2.0 is also about the sharing of data between users and how we can exercise control over that data. A great example of this can been seen in most Social Networking sites, e.g. Myspace, Facebook and Flickr.

Let’s take Myspace for example, Myspace can be viewed as breaking the Internets forth wall, it allows users to change the way their personal page can be viewed and experienced by adding HTML and various other Rich Internet Application code into the design, this allows users to not only exercise control over their data but the way in which their data is displayed, allowing for essentially a unique experience for each individuals home page.

Web 2.0 essentially is not just about technology, design or even a new way of thinking, personally I believe Web 2.0 most resembles Religion. Whilst some people are sceptic whether to believe in Religion or not, for those people who embrace it, not only does it help add meaning to their lives, but more often than not you’ll find it also makes their lives a lot more meaningful.
